About Us

Non-Discriminatory Policy: We do not discriminate based on race, color, or ethnicity of a student or family for enrollment.

Ethics Policy: We are all mandated reporters of possible child abuse or neglect, and by law are required to report instances of concern. The safety and well-being of a child is our number one priority.

History of Building Futures Academy

April 2008, Building Blocks Child Development Center opened its doors for childcare. The total property encompassed nearly 6 acres offering care for toddlers from just one year of age to prekindergarten. In 2011, we extended our services to offer a private academy for instruction from Kindergarten through 8th grade. If that wasn't a big enough stretch we felt the need to expand even further to match the need in society. We have now been proudly offering service from two years old up to 12th grade the last handful of years! We also provide amazing Summer Programs outside of the school year.

Dreams are now a reality as we changed from a childcare facility to a successful school and appropriately renamed the organization Building Futures Academy and Preschool! Having the opportunity to educate, motivate, and encourage students from all sectors of the educational system has been both enlightening and gratifying. The transformations that have taken place in these children have been astounding! No longer do the students feel the "pressure" that state mandated testing imposed, the humiliation that comes from a lack of understanding and a fear to ask questions, nor the frustrations of being advanced but having to wait on the entire class to "catch up", or feeling behind without explanation or instruction.

We are all so excited to share this alternative with you that allows education to be an adventure for your child again. Our early learning teachers are the Best of the Best! Likewise, our Academy Instructors have a great love and passion for children, and pour everything they have into God's precious children.

Core academic subjects include English/Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies while all students also participate in Physical Education, Writing, and Reading. Our curriculum is designed to offer students choices in many avenues that the individuals deem fit for their desires and passions!

Our focus in teaching is based upon the skill level of your child, rather than the “grade level” in which the county has classified your child. Your child will have the ability to work at his or her own pace and take courses in various grade levels to continue in their success! Your child now has the responsibility of his/her own grades and is in full control to determine the level in which he/she wishes to reach by year end. With strong parental involvement in the education process, we will take them from wherever they are presently and get them to where they need to go.

Many homeschooled children far exceed the state minimum expectations and surpass grade levels to complete some college requirements while finishing their high school education. Now your child has the best you can give them with a strong Home school Christian curriculum, positive socialization and interaction with other children, loving and caring instructors, AND one on one tutoring in areas where they need assistance.

Mr. Rick & Mrs. Christine Thompson are the Founders of the school and are the proud parents of five children ranging in age from 16 to 32 yrs young. They are well versed in homeschooling, as they have years of experience with their own children as well.

Our Environment

Life happens, and will continue to happen, to every single one of us no matter the precaution. Often times we tend to be scatter focused by circumstance, association, or even our own decisions. As a school, we submit ourselves because we realize we are all broken in some fashion and need others to uplift our mind and hearts continuously. We come together each morning for the pledge to the American flag, the Christian flag, the Bible, and sentimental prayer. We are true believers in coming together for a greater purpose in unity. Only then, is where vulnerability is accepted due to the comfortable realization that others are going through trials and tribulations also.

We take the time each morning to have the students share any prayer requests on their hearts whether it’s for themselves or others. Often times individuals are fighting a world too large, or holding the weight of it when it’s simply too heavy for ONE to bear. We are blessed to have been able to create such an environment conducive to growth in all areas while keeping strong roots in Faith.

School Choice

State House of Representative, Jennifer Sullivan, came by to participate in our National School Choice Week activities!

At the age of 23, Ms. Sullivan is the youngest person ever to hold an elected position in our state's government. You may not know that she was a home-schooled student and used the Accelerated Christian Education Curriculum. This is the very program we have chosen to utilize in our classrooms beginning the 2015-2016 school year!
